The DFL's Outrageous Office Overhaul: A Taxpayer Tab of $729 Million!

As Minnesotans deal with inflation and economic instability as a result of Bidenomics, the DFL is pushing for a jaw-dropping $454 million facelift for the State Office Building. Add in another $275 million in interest payments, and we're left wondering – is this a joke or a fiscal nightmare? The scariest part, we the taxpayers are footing the bill.

The DFL wants to throw a whopping $729 million at renovating a single building that hosts a mere 134 legislators, legislative staff, and a handful of others. The DFL's decision to unleash this financial beast is beyond comprehension. The cost of these renovations is more than double the $310 million used to renovate the ENTIRE State Capitol, and over 8 TIMES more expensive than the last DFL waste of taxpayer dollars to build a brand spanking new $90 million Senate Office Building in 2013

Is this why Tim Walz and his fellow Democrats refused to return the more than $19B surplus Minnesotans paid into the last year? So Democrats could go on a spending spree and drop three-quarters of a billion dollars on upgrading office space at a time when Minnesotans are living paycheck-to-paycheck and can barely afford to buy more than groceries.

There is a silver lining to this situation, for those that remember when the DFL threw $90 million at a new Senate office building in 2013? It cost them control of the House in 2014 and handed the Senate over to the Republicans in 2016. So let the DFL go ahead with their outlandish office overhaul. It's the perfect showcase of their out-of-touch spending habits. If history is any indicator, the consequences might just be a political wake-up call. In the meantime, brace yourselves, taxpayers – your hard-earned money is about to fund the DFL's $729 million new vanity project!
