Kevin O’Leary: Minnesota is “uninvestable” and Moorhead “looks like Cuba”

Billionaire investment manager and Shark Tank star, Kevin O’Leary, recently made headlines for telling it how it is: States like New York, New Jersey, California, and Minnesota are “uninvestable” from a business perspective. Mr. Wonderful says “don’t shoot the messenger,” it’s not about politics, this is about policy.

Getting a not-so-honorable mention from O’Leary, Minnesota is in an interesting situation surrounded by states that are seen as more business-friendly and investable. In North Dakota, he says there is potential.

O’Leary appeared on Fox News and went so far as to compare Moorhead, Minnesota to Cuba.

“I’m here in Fargo, a few yards away, Minnesota, a town called Moorhead. Twenty-five years ago, both towns had 50,000 people in them. Now, I don’t want to get into politics. I want to get into policy. You’ve got policy in Minnesota. You’ve got policy in North Dakota. Twenty-five years later, look at Fargo — a quarter of a million people, second largest Microsoft campus in the country, massive biotech, pharma businesses, ag-tech, you name it — arts, massive education infrastructure, wildly successful. Go across the bridge, the place looks like Cuba. There’s only 30,000 people living in Moorhead now. It’s a wasteland. What’s the difference? Policy.”

As much as O’Leary’s words hurt, it does not have to be this way. Unfortunately, Minnesota Democrats are making our state even more business unfriendly with higher taxes and more bureaucracy, while we lose more and more workers and businesses. Democrats must open their eyes to this devastating reality before it really is too late.
