DFL Removes Tax Breaks for Baby Products From Final Tax Bill
State Democrats removed bipartisan legislation from the omnibus tax bill that would expand the sales tax exemption for baby products. It would have been an easy way to provide relief for Minnesota families and the decision to remove it (on Mother’s Day of all days) left Republican legislators frustrated and confused.
The exemption would’ve cost the state $7 million. That’s frankly chump change compared to the $19 billion surplus and the Democrats’ egregious spending proposals.
Senator Julia Coleman (R-Waconia) demanded answers during a press conference: “Who was against this? It passed with unanimous bipartisan support. It has a relatively small fiscal impact. So where was the controversy?”
The decision to take the tax relief measure out of the bill overnight even left some reporters troubled.
It is extremely disappointing that Democrats value their bloated bureaucracy over Minnesota’s hard-working parents. They have become incredibly greedy with your money and are increasingly finding new ways to take even more of it.
