DFL Proposes 27% Increase in State Budget
Gov. Walz and the DFL are all about spending your money and there appears to be no end in sight. New proposals from the governor’s office last week call for nearly $1.2 billion in additional spending. In total, they’ve proposed a 27% increase in the state budget to a whopping $66 billion!
Has your budget increased by 27%? Given our economic state, it’s safe to say probably not. So why do Democrats get to increase theirs?
Minnesota has some of the highest taxes in the United States. The government has more than enough, in fact, there has been a surplus for the past nine years!
According to the Pioneer Press, “Walz’s updated budget request also includes $160 million in spending to address opioid addiction, $96 million more for higher education and $19 million for electric vehicle tax credits,” reports the Pioneer Press.
While Democrats are focused on spending taxpayer dollars, Republicans are putting up a good fight for relief for Minnesotans. Last week, Senate Republicans voted down the proposed infrastructure bill, saying that they would not pass it until the social security tax is eliminated.
“We can invest in our state and invest in the people who gave us the surplus,” said Senate Minority Leader Mark Johnson (R-East Grand Forks) in a statement. “It would be a win-win: critical needs will get funded; taxpayers will get relief. That’s our goal for this session.”
