Wisconsin’s Biggest Economic Supporters? The MN DFL
Whether you’re a sports fan or have state pride, the rivalry between Minnesota and Wisconsin has existed for generations. However, there’s a surprising group of Minnesotans who have secretly been supporting our rival state – Minnesota Democrats. Now, you may be wondering how Democrat state lawmakers are prioritizing the Dairy State. Well, it’s through their policy choices.
First, let’s talk about freedoms and liberties Wisconsinites have that Minnesotans do not thanks to Democrat leadership. Wisconsin allows its residents to buy the good fireworks and doesn’t have 3.2 beer laws or bans on the sale of liquor in convenience stores on the books. Furthermore, with Minnesota Democrats considering bans on everything from gas stoves, gas fireplaces, gas-powered lawn mowers and snow blowers, and even water bottles, it means our neighbor to the east will be the closest place to buy these items if needed.
Next, let’s look at the tax burden Minnesota places on its residents. According to a 2023 report from The Tax Foundation, Minnesota’s top marginal income tax rate is 9.85%. Wisconsin’s is more than 2.00% lower at just 7.65%. In fact, Minnesota has one of the highest marginal tax rates in the country. This doesn’t include proposed tax hikes by Minnesota Democrats worth more than $2B.
Finally, look no further than the migration data. Minnesota was ranked as a top-10 state for outbound migration. Simply put, it means Minnesota is leading the country in driving residents to other states. A report from Stacker found that a majority of Minnesotans who left the state in 2019 (15.3%) moved to Wisconsin.
If Minnesota wants to be competitive again, then it’s time to ditch the policies that promote Wisconsin’s families and economy ahead of ours.
