Why Democrats Should Heed the Latest Snowstorm in Fight to Cancel Gas Snow Blowers
Depending on who you ask, last week’s snow storm was either satisfactory or disappointing. With most of the southern third of Minnesota receiving anywhere from a foot to two feet of snow, one thing is for certain: life was very difficult if you didn’t have a snowblower.
A future without snowblowers could soon become our reality here in Minnesota.
As you’re probably aware, Democrats have proposed legislation that would ban gas-powered lawn equipment like lawn mowers and leaf blowers. While not specifically mentioned, the ban on lawn equipment most likely extends to gas-powered snow blowers as well.
Yet, last week’s storm is exactly why Democrats should reconsider their fight to ban snow blowers and gas-powered lawn equipment. While Democrats claim they fight for the poor and underprivileged, their attempts to ban widely available, affordable gas-powered equipment in favor of high cost electric alternatives would hurt the very people they claim to have in mind.
Unless Democrats are willing to shovel every driveway and sidewalk themselves or have a comparable, affordable alternative to the equipment they seek to ban, Minnesotans will be united in this message to St. Paul lawmakers: hands off our snowblowers.
