Minnesota Democrats in Disarray over Sanctuary State Proposal
We’re one week into the Minnesota legislative session and already Democrats are fighting with each other. They are conflicted over the proposed North Star Act, which would establish Minnesota as a sanctuary state. The ramifications of this would be devastating for our state’s economy.
House Speaker Melissa Hortman cast doubt on the bill's prospects, asserting, "I don’t believe that there are the votes for that bill to move in the House or the Senate." However, Majority Leader Erin Murphy struck a different tone, emphasizing the importance of relying on the committee process.
You can see clearly from the conflicting statements the divide in Democratic leaders. As Speaker Hortman expresses skepticism about its viability, Majority Leader Murphy advocates for a committee review. Who knows what will happen!
With so much at stake, every DFL legislator should have to go on record answering the question: "Do you support turning Minnesota into a sanctuary state?"
While the Democrats are wasting time fighting over this terrible idea, there are several other more pressing issues to be taken care of like the much-needed fix to the DFL-caused problem of the School Resource Officer bill. As the legislative session progresses, we hope that Democrats can put their infighting and terrible ideas aside and get to work on what really matters to Minnesotans.
