Minneapolis Police and Residents Under Siege on 4th of July
This Fourth of July, large groups of Minneapolis teenagers targeted individuals, law enforcement personnel, and property with fireworks. These disturbing events showcase the serious need for Minnesota to support its officers, as they are working tirelessly day and night to protect citizens from the continued mayhem; protecting citizens from teenagers who discovered a fun new toy to terrorize us with.
It wasnโt just one group of people, or even one area of the city, but all over. Lake Bde Maka Ska, Columbia Park, Minnehaha Falls, and other parts of Minneapolis reported firework-related crimes.
At Lake Bde Maka Ska, a group of over 100 people was targeting law enforcement personnel with fireworks aimed at a Minneapolis squad car, creating an extremely hazardous situation.
Videos shared on social media captured shocking moments when fireworks, including Roman candles, were directed at police squad cars.
When a WCCO reporter was discussing one of the events with a man while on camera, an exploding mortar went off behind them, the photographer narrowly avoided injury.
In the aftermath of these events, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara addressed the public, acknowledging the gravity of the situation. Sixteen individuals were apprehended for their involvement in "brazen and reckless" discharge of fireworks, endangering both people and vehicles.
Only 16 out of however many dozens, maybe even hundreds of vandals with fireworks that night. Our law enforcement is there to create a safer environment for all, and to protect us. It is time for them to get the respect and support they deserve. Weโre looking at you, Democrats.
