Democrats Break Key Campaign Promise to Eliminate Social Security Benefit Tax
Minnesota Democrats are flip-flopping on a key campaign promise to eliminate the tax on social security.
A tax bill in the Minnesota Senate calls for only a partial elimination of the social security benefits tax. 76% of Minnesotans would be exempt. Democrats argue that if they got rid of the tax altogether, the state would lose $600 million, which to them is too much. Is it really too much when we have a $19 billion surplus?
Minnesota is one of only 11 states that still has a tax on social security benefits. This issue, along with our state’s high taxes in general, is certainly a driving force in the increased trend of people leaving Minnesota.
State Democrats pulled the wool over the eyes of Minnesota seniors only to get elected and forget them once they were sworn in. It’s deceiving and dishonest. Minnesotans, especially our seniors, deserve better!
The legislature is set to adjourn on May 22, 2023. It is important now more than ever that you contact your legislator about this issue. Tell them that we will not accept this partial cut, we want it gone!
