Another New Tax? Meet the Flat Tax on Delivery

GrubHub, DoorDash, Instacart, online shopping, and Amazon; so much of our lives is dependent on delivery.

Now, Democrats are targeting your Friday night order of Chinese food from your favorite place in Minneapolis or your order of paper towels on Amazon with a new tax. Meet the new flat tax on delivery

The flat tax being proposed by Democrats is separate from the sales tax you pay for your online goods (though that’s going up too thanks to a proposed sales tax hike in the seven county metro area). The flat tax would be calculated separately and would initially cost $0.40 per order.

If passed, Democrats plan to slowly increase the tax from $0.40 to $0.50. Think of how many times you order from Amazon, GrubHub, DoorDash, InstaCart, etc. Now think of those nickels and dimes adding up. How much extra would you pay every year?

Let that sink in as you also consider that this latest proposal comes as Democrats fight for additional tax and fee increases that would target payrolls, current sales tax, motor vehicle tabs, DNR fees, and capital gains tax worth more than $2 billion. And that doesn’t even mention the near $18 billion surplus lawmakers have thanks to overtaxing.
